We were commissioned to design a complete refurbishment of the ground floor of a detached property with a wonderful south facing garden in Farnham Common. The brief from the clients was to enlarge the ground floor of the current house to create connected open plan spaces which they could use as a family home but also open up for entertaining and throwing parties.
The completed project won an LABC Central Award in 2019 for the best Extension to an Existing House and we attended the Grand Final in London to meet all the other award winners.
We designed new modern single storey rear extensions with feature open corners and doors that slide back to make the most of the wonderful garden.
We also worked with the clients on the Kitchen design, the interior design of the spaces and arranged for the appointment of other consultants. We chose a modern/contemporary design externally because we felt it would sit better against the existing house, as well as allowing the use of a projected roof to minimise the solar gain from the south facing glazing.
The internal amendments of the rooms/walls were designed to create a flow to the rooms and spaces in a number of different modes from use as a family home to full party mode.
